Okay, so I’m gonna point out that this is a horse post. If horses aren’t your thing, I maybe wouldn’t read any further. I did question writing such a pony related post, but the pan out of yesterday has been all I can think about.
So I started horse riding when I was about 6/7 and in my 14 odd years of the sport, there have been two stand outs. One came into my life when I was eight, and the other, only two years ago. This post isn’t all too random, as over the summer, I’ve been back at the yard a few times, but yesterday was the first time in a very long time that I saw Laddie.
Laddie. A lovely little flea-bitten grey, standing at around 14hh. If you’re an equestrian, he doesn’t look like much. But when this little guy came into my life, I was eight and he was five, he was just something that meant everything to me fairly immediately. I remember pleading to have a go on him when he arrived, I’d only been riding a little over a year and he was a bit too advance for me, but after a few weeks, I was finally there. I remember it so well! He was so quick, very sensitive and loved to jump- what a score. I rode this pony for a good eight years, it was getting to the point where I was too big, too heavy, even too advance for this little grey and he went on loan to a girl younger and smaller than me, who no doubt had the best time with him!
I found a few photos, from a range of years. He was just such a sick little pony and no doubt he still is. Bless him, he gave me the best time and proved to me why I loved horses so much. In all my years, there will never be a pony that matches this one. He might not have been the biggest, the quickest, or the most athletic, but little Laddie will always be the best in my mind.
Okay, so there was a lot more photos than I had originally planned. Consequently, there will be a part two for ‘bay’. Suppose I did squeeze what was my life from eight years old into about thirty photos, that’s not bad going. There’s also a few embarrassing photos of me, so if you made it this far and you’re not a pony person, not all bad I guess.
Thanks for the mems, Lads, you were a dream.
